Subscriber FAQ

How will using AdSortium benefit me?

AdSortium is obsessed with helping you connect to quality business leads.  We've built a customized search platform that provides you the ability to increasingly target your abilities to clients that know their needs (including budget and deadline).  Similarly, prospective clients can search for work samples posted by you that meet their job requirements through standard keyword terms indicating style, genre, and type (print, video, outdoor, etc.) to quickly identify professionals like you that are already reasonably qualified to handle their work.  This helps to manage expectations on both sides.  Additional keywords can further narrow the search results.

For example, a subscriber with expertise in a specific area would be able to offer their 'COLLATERAL MATERIAL – Graphic Artist / Design' services for an 'Annual Report' design in 'Less than four colors.'  An subscriber with skill in the same area would be able to offer their 'COLLATERAL MATERIAL – Graphic Artist / Design' services for an 'Annual Report' design only.  And, a subscriber with limited skill or expertise in a specific area would be limited to generically offering their services for 'COLLATERAL MATERIAL.'

When you know exactly what you can offer, and the client knows exactly what they need, you can be reasonably assured that the connection you make will be good.

What makes AdSortium different from any other portfolio site?

AdSortium's focus is on supporting the needs of only one industry and uses industry standard terminology and job function headings to generate search results that provide quality, rather than quantity, leads.

The challenges of finding quality freelance or contract work opportunities are often quite high.  It's not that the work isn't there.  It is instead that there are inadequate resources for connecting those that need and those that provide.

The problem is two-fold:  (1) agencies and marketing departments have a hard time finding and connecting with qualified vendors and (2) freelance contractors have a hard time identifying and developing relationships with qualified sources of contract business.  The operant word is 'qualified' – in the eyes of the target industry.

There are many online sites that facilitate business between these parties.  However, the sheer number of subscribers/registered users and the lack of industry-specific structure (even red tape) provided for posting worker portfolios and client job opportunities creates situations where qualified customers cannot easily locate qualified subscribers and vice versa.  The other sites primarily lack the industry–specific search structure and methodology to quickly and accurately find contractors with the experience and skill necessary to take on a job and efficiently complete it.

Comparable frustration exists on the subscriber side wherein many so-called 'clients' have little or no real understanding of the industry or actual requirements of the jobs they are posting; resulting in job offers that have low budgets, incomplete project briefs, and unrealistic deadlines.

AdSortium addresses these unique factors that impact how you make connections.

How do I get top billing in search results?

AdSortium's standard search results are intentionally 'randomized' to prevent any one person from dominating the search results.  Performing the same general service search twice will present a differently ordered list of available freelancers.  This gives everyone an equal chance at top billing.  Clients can always choose to specifically sort the results by location, alphabetically, by professional affiliation, keyword, etc.

If you want a better chance at limiting the search result 'competition', then use AdSortium's industry-focused search options to associate your portfolio work samples with specific skills, areas of expertise, and appropriate keywords.  For example, if a client has a need for a specific job, let say it's a standard, four-color brochure that's quad folded and has a spot UV coat, they're going to be searching for a "Graphic Artist / Designer" that has "Collateral / Brochure / 4-color" portfolio samples with "quad-fold" and "UV coat" keywords associated with the work.  If you are the only one, or one of a limited few, that has taken the time to properly identify your work samples, then you will be included in that list of people that are specifically aligned with the work that the prospective client needs.

How do I improve my chances at connecting with clients?

If you're a seasoned professional, you already know that you can't be everything to everyone.  It's all about alignment with your target market.  Identify what you're best at and build your portfolio to show it off.  Use the system to highlight your skills and areas of expertise and apply appropriate keywords so clients can better find you.

Can I work directly with the clients I meet on AdSortium.com?

Absolutely!  The purpose of the AdSortium website is to support you as a freelancer / independent contractor in your quest to find quality work opportunities.  AdSortium does not 'own' the business relationships you create through it's site and imposes no 'non-compete' or 'buy-out' requirements like other sites do.

What are the primary differences between the subscription levels?

Each successive level increases the number of service categories, skills and areas of expertise that you can specify in your portfolio.  The lowest paid subscription level should be adequate for the majority of the site's users.  The higher levels recognize additional specialization and/or diversification that seasoned professionals gain through their experience in the industry and provides the ability to include these other skills and expertise in their portfolio.  It is important to note that even at the highest subscription level, you can only specify a limited number of skills and expertise at any given time.  No one can do everything.  You must choose what you're best at and show examples that prove it.  The purpose of this community is to improve the quality of the connections you make with prospective customers.

Why does AdSortium require me to upload multiple work samples before I can show up in search results as skilled or an expert in a given category?

Skill and expertise is acquired through practice and performance.  In recognition of this, in order for a subscriber to be able to claim any area of skill, they must be able to show at least three work samples completed for a real client (i.e. no tutorials).  Similarly, to claim an area of expertise, a subscriber must have at least five work samples to show.  If you are claiming to be skilled, or an expert, in a given category, you should have plenty of past work examples to choose from.  Plus, the more work samples you show, the greater depth of capability you exhibit and the higher the likelihood that a prospective client will be interested in connecting with you.

I'd like to sign up my company to be included as a service provider for ad agencies and marketing departments?

The AdSortium website was specifically created to support independent, freelance marketing and advertising professionals in their quest to find quality work opportunities.  These talented workers often have limited resources with which to seek out and connect with prospective clients.  AdSortium provides an opportunity for these independent contractors to reach out beyond what their normal geographic location and financial resource limitations would typically allow.

In recognition of small business and collective partnership arrangements frequently formed between individuals, we have provided an option for creating a business account that will allow you to post work samples across all disciplines.  In this manner, a typical small agency with two to five people can posts work under one common banner.

How does the escrow payment system work?

AdSortium offers an optional escrow service to manage payment for the work performed (if a payment process is needed).  After agreeing upon a rate and payment terms for the work (including incremental payments according to benchmark completions), the client deposits the total project amount into the escrow account.  As you fulfill the agreement, the client 'accepts' your work and payment from the escrow is released to you.  Under this arrangement, you have a reasonable assurance of getting paid for your efforts, and the client has a method for reasonably assuring your performance.
